Female Genital Mutilation Helpline Launches 24 June
The
Female Genital Mutilation Helpline will be launched on Monday 24 June 2013 as a
UK-wide service. It will operate 24/7, and will be staffed by specially
trained child protection helpline counsellors who can offer advice,
information, and assistance to members of the public and to
professionals. Counsellors will also be able to make referrals, as
appropriate, to statutory agencies and other services.

The film makes its Russian premiere at the Moscow International Film
Festival in June 2013, accompanied by a petition of over 61,000
signatures. Key Russian policy makers will be in attendance at the
screening, as well as American parents waiting to be united with their adopted
children.

Last year 1.2m women and 800,000 men suffered domestic abuse in England and Wales, and approximately two people were killed by their current or former partner each week (British Crime Survey 2011-12). Figures indicate that 12.7% of young women aged 16-19 and 6.2% of young men also experienced some kind of domestic abuse in 2009-10.
